Defenestration Tour
Defenestration Tour

...secrets of Prague's court...

This tour designed for those interested in history. Defenestration (throwing people out of windows for political gain) is a unique Czech phenomenon, and the tour takes you to the site of the three most famous defenestrations in 1419, 1618 and 1948. We start in Prague Castle district, the site of the second and third defenestrations. We visit the spot where the Catholic nobles were ‘de-windowed’ in the tense build-up to the Thirty Years War, and the Cernin Palace from which the son of the first president, Jan Masaryk was probably hurled in the year the communists grasped power in Czechoslovakia. We then descend the hill to the New Town Hall on Charles Square - the site of the first defenestration during the time of ‘heretical’ Hussite fervour.
